September marks the end of the high season in Paris, and during this less touristy month, prices in the city slowly start to fall. The climate is often pleasant, meaning you can enjoy a sunny visit to Paris for less.

Although the Parisian weather can be quite variable at this time of year, it remains pleasant for the most part. September is generally a sunny month with one of the lowest average rainfalls of the year.

Early September

Early-September weather can be warm and is similar to that of late August, making it a great time to enjoy a pleasant stroll around the French capital in the last of the summer sun.

End of the month

Late September marks the beginning of Fall in Western Europe, with temperatures decreasing slowly (to around 15°C/60°F) but remaining fairly mild. You’re also more likely to see rainy or windy spells toward the end of the month, even though September as a whole tends to be a fairly dry month.

Things to Do in Paris at the End of Summer

It’s the back-to-school month, the end of one season and the start of a new one. There are plenty of late-summer activities to enjoy in the French capital:

• Take a walk along the banks of the river Seine in the Latin Quarter
• Visit Buttes-Chaumont or another of the city’s parks (Montsouris, Luxembourg, Bois de Vincennes)
• Take a Seine river cruise and discover “the most beautiful avenue in Paris”

• Browse the Porte de Vanves flea market, a long-time source of inspiration for many great designers
• Discover the art galleries of the Marais district

Special Events

• European Heritage Days (Journées européennes du patrimoine) — Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, 2026

On this mid-September weekend, numerous monuments and museums across the city open their doors to the public for free. Many also organize special activities to help visitors discover Parisian culture and heritage. It’s one of the rare chances each year to visit offices and monuments that are normally closed to the public, such as the Élysée Palace — the official residence of the French President — or the Hôtel Matignon, home to the Prime Minister.

• Paris Fashion Week — September 28 to October 6, 2026 (women’s Spring/Summer 2027 collections)

For over a week, the fashion capital showcases its creativity to the world, with dozens of runway shows held at venues such as the Grand Palais, Palais de Tokyo, and Théâtre du Châtelet. Most shows are invitation-only for industry professionals, but the SPHERE showroom at the Palais de Tokyo (running September 30 to October 6) is open to the public and is a great spot to discover up-and-coming designers.
