Our tips about how to visit the Eiffel Tower
Eiffel built this masterpiece in two years. The 12,000 steel girders are held together by 2,500,000 rivers and the result is a smooth, curving profile. The steel constructions defied all traditional rules in architecture at the time and today, it serves as the television transmitter for the Paris area.
The tower has three floors: the first one at a height of 57 meters, the second floor at a height of 115 meters and the third floor at a height of 276 meters. The top of the aerial is 320 meters above the ground.
On a bright day, the view from the top platform is astonishing. You can see every inch of Paris including the most distant suburbs. The tower feet are firmly fixed into hydraulic caissons reducing the effect on the wind on the monument.

How to acces to the Eiffel tower
The most convenient method of accessing the Eiffel Tower is through the metro; however, there are alternative means to reach it.
By Metro
- Line 6: Stop at Bir-Hakeim (about a 10-minute walk).
- Line 9: Stop at Trocadéro (great view before walking down).
- Line 8: Stop at École Militaire (walk across the Champ de Mars).
By RER
- RER C: Stop at Champ de Mars – Tour Eiffel (5-minute walk).
By Bus
Several bus lines stop nearby: 42, 69, 82, 87.
On Foot
- From the Trocadéro Gardens: Cross the Seine via the Pont d’Iéna for one of the most iconic approaches.
- From the Champ de Mars: Walk through the park and approach the tower directly.
By Bike
- You can use Vélib’, the city’s bike-sharing system. There are stations around the Eiffel Tower.
By Car / Taxi
- Driving isn’t recommended because parking is very limited, but you’ll find some underground car parks nearby (e.g., Quai Branly or Champs de Mars).
Once you arrive, you can enter the Eiffel Tower either by the west and east pillars (for elevators) or the south pillar (for stairs, if you’re climbing up to the 2nd floor on foot).

The queue for the Eiffel Tower can be very long: between 2 and 4 hours to buy the ticket. It is highly recommended to buy the ticket online to reduce your waiting time.
Our advice is to visit the Eiffel Tower at day. Why? Because at night , it is better to go up another monument (for example the Arc de Triomphe) to see the Tower’s lights.
