Where to run in Paris – Parks, places for running and sport

by stillinparis

When one visits Paris, it becomes readily apparent that Parisians exhibit a notable enthusiasm for physical activity, particularly evident in the presence of numerous joggers. However, one may wonder about their destinations and preferred places to run—are they heading to parks, docks, or along the river banks?

Prior to addressing these inquiries, I would like to offer some practical advice:
– Ensure you are wearing appropriate footwear.
– A reliable mobile application to consider is Runkeeper; downloading it prior to your outing will provide you with valuable information regarding your running distance, mileage, and calories expended.
– Should you choose to run in the parks, it is advisable to avoid the mid-afternoon hours when, as one may observe, parks tend to be crowded, resulting in a challenging experience that may involve navigating around baby carriages and scooters.

Parisians’ favorite places are unquestionably green spaces.

Top 3 parks or places for running in Paris :

1. Monceau Park  ( subway Line 2 Monceau)

Located in the 8th arrondissement, this park is notably charming, though not extensively large. The perimeter path spans one kilometer, which is advantageous for those wishing to track their running distance. Visitors will find it quite beautiful; after a run, a leisurely stroll around the park reveals impressive buildings characteristic of Paris. On Saturday and Sunday mornings, many runners frequent the area; however, one should exercise caution in the afternoons as it becomes quite crowded with walkers.

2. Park des Buttes Chaumonts(subway line 7bis  Buttes Chaumont )

Situated in the northeast of Paris, this location differs from the first due to its larger size and extended length, featuring a perimeter path of 2.5 kilometers. It serves as an ideal destination for those seeking a challenge, with numerous ascents that can be quite arduous. Descents are also present; however, the ascents may prove particularly strenuous. Should you possess both time and fortitude, ascending to the “peak” of the hill presents an opportunity to enjoy an exceptionally beautiful view. 3. Lake of Vincennes (Metro Porte Dauphine (subway Line 2) or Ranelagh (subway Line 9) are about 1km from the park).

A vast expanse suitable for jogging, this space is immense, approximately twice the size of Central Park. The most frequented area is the “jogger’s lake,” known as Lac Daumesnil, which extends about 2 km in length. Should you choose to run in this vicinity, it is advisable to disembark at the Porte Dorée metro station (Line 8). If time permits after your run, a visit to “the Castle of Vincennes” is highly recommended, as it is indeed a worthwhile excursion!

Located between the 6th and 7th arrondissements, the banks of the left bank of the Seine offer an excellent sports ground. There are many joggers, but you will also encounter cyclists and roller skating enthusiasts. The city hall of Paris has developed this section of the quays to facilitate sports. It also offers free coaching on weekends.

5. Monsouris Park

Ideal for those living in the South of Paris, it is a calm park that is rarely visited by tourists. The park features a mix of flat terrain and gentle slopes. Several routes are possible, with a loop of approximately 1.5 km available. Alternatively, if you want to enjoy the lake and reach the university campus park, a longer loop is also possible.
